Could CBD be the help you need to quit smoking cigarettes for good?

Every year a lot of people try to quit smoking. It’s probably one of the top New Year's resolutions out there. Some will succeed and some sadly won’t.

Will you be taking the step this year?
Will cigarettes be a thing of the past this year?

Smoking is a habit that i is not very easy to quit, that is a well known fact.

There is even a huge industry built to help people quit smoking, with nicotine band aids and nicotine chewing gum in stores everywhere, hypnotherapy and other treatments available.
Have you ever tried to quit, but not yet succeeded?
Or maybe you just think it might be time to do it now?

Did you know that cannabinoids could help you through your struggle?

One study from 2013, Cannabidiol reduces cigarette consumption in tobacco smokers: Preliminary findings, shows that providing people CBD, reduced their consumption of cigarettes. The control group that got CBD had 40% less consumption than the placebo group.
Feeling less of a need to smoke, can be a very good aid if you are trying to quit.

The study focused on examining whether cannabidiol could impact on cigarette consumption.
And if drugs that alter the endocannabinoid system might be effective treatments for nicotine addiction.

“The role of the endocannabinoid system in nicotine addiction is being increasingly acknowledged. We conducted a pilot, randomised double blind placebo controlled study set out to assess the impact of the ad-hoc use of cannabidiol (CBD) in smokers who wished to stop smoking. 24 smokers were randomised to receive an inhaler of CBD (n = 12) or placebo (n = 12) for one week, they were instructed to use the inhaler when they felt the urge to smoke. Over the treatment week, placebo treated smokers showed no differences in number of cigarettes smoked. In contrast, those treated with CBD significantly reduced the number of cigarettes smoked by ~ 40% during treatment. Results also indicated some maintenance of this effect at follow-up. These preliminary data, combined with the strong preclinical rationale for use of this compound, suggest CBD to be a potential treatment for nicotine addiction that warrants further exploration.  “

Another study from 2018, Cannabidiol reverses attentional bias to cigarette cues in a human experimental model of tobacco withdrawal,  looks further on these findings.

Should we consider CBD as an important tool in nicotine withdrawal?

“There is mounting evidence that the endogenous cannabinoid (eCB) system is involved in motivation for rewards, including modulating the rewarding effects of drugs. In relation to nicotine dependence, cannabinoid receptor 1 (CB1R) antagonists, such as rimonabant, decrease nicotine conditioned place preference and self‐administration in pre‐clinical models of addiction”

We know that many people around the world are using CBD and other cannabinoids to battle different kinds of addiction, both alcohol and pharmaceuticals.  Seems likely that it would also help many with nicotine addiction as well. For several reasons.

“The psychological properties of CBD are suggestive of a potentially ideal drug for smoking cessation. These include its lack of intoxicating and subjective effects, alongside its anxiolytic effects in humans. Its anxiolytic properties are particularly relevant, as anxiety is a primary symptom of tobacco withdrawal ”

Many describe anxiety as being one of the toughest parts of quitting. Being restless, edgy and emotional.  Using CBD for these issues can be of great relief and make quitting a lot less stressful.

“This suggests that CBD may have specific effects on the evaluative and motivational salience‐reducing properties of drug cues, which is consistent with clinical and pre‐clinical research. Moreover, no significant psychoactive or side effects were observed. These results therefore support the potential of CBD in targeting specific neurocognitive processes in nicotine addiction. “

I used your CBD vape pen to help me quit smoking last year! Been smoking since I was young. Finally did it :) Your pen did not make my throat itch as much as the last one I tried. And tasted much better. Thanks for the help! Recommend anybody to use cbd when they try to quit.
Happy 2020!
